After School Art Celebration Hosted at T’s Intermodal Transportation Center

What:  2011 Lights On! Afterschool Sidewalk Art Celebration

When: Thursday, October 20, 2011, 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Program at 4:30; Student entertainers at 6:00 p.m.)

Where: The T’s Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC), 1001 Jones St. Fort Worth, Mapsco 77A

Visuals: Elementary, middle and high school students use the ITC sidewalk as their canvas to replicate an artistic image of after school activities. 

Summary: On Thursday, October 20, 2011, afternoon commuters using The T’s Intermodal Transportation Center will be entertained by the chalk art creations of children participating in the Lights On! Afterschool Sidewalk Art Celebration.  Lights On! is a national celebration to call attention to the importance of after school programs for America’s children, families and communities.

There will be approximately 40 students representing 30 different schools participating in the Sidewalk Art event. Additionally there will be student entertainment including a mariachi band from J.P Elder Middle School, a dance/flash mob from Stripling Middle School and the choir from Van Zandt Guinn Elementary School.

The event will also kick-off the 2011 - 2012 “Expressions That Move You” – Art Contest sponsored by The T (Fort Worth Transportation Authority) for the Fort Worth After School program. Winning students’ artwork will be displayed on The T’s buses.
 
Fort Worth After School (FWAS) provides quality after school programs in a safe environment resulting in educational, physical and social development for elementary, middle and high school students. FWAS is partially funded by the Fort Worth ISD and the City of Fort Worth (Crime Control and Prevention District) with additional funding through Texas Educational Agency 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants.  FWAS is a free afterschool enrichment program in 94 F.W.I.S.D. schools that served over 12,557 students from grades 3-12 during the 2010-2011 school year.
