*Tarrant Area Food Bank reports fewer donations of canned and boxed food since July
FORT WORTH (October 20, 2011) – Bring a can of food and ride the bus for free on Thursday, October 27, when The T will host its annual “Ride for a Can Day” to help Tarrant Area Food Bank rebuild supplies from declines the last few months in donations of canned and boxed food.
One can or box of food may be redeemed for a single, one-way bus ride. Two food items will earn a free local “Day Pass” that can be used for unlimited rides that day on any of The T’s regular or express buses in Fort Worth or Richland Hills.
The Ride for a Can program is not valid for Mobility Impaired Services (MITS) or Trinity Railway Express (TRE) service. Cans may not be redeemed on the train, and “local” Day Passes do not cover TRE, but only The T’s bus service.
“We are depending more than ever on the community for canned food,” said Bo Soderbergh, executive director of Tarrant Area Food Bank. “While the amount of food our partner charities access from us continues to rise, total donations have dropped 12.5 percent over the past three months (July through September),” said Soderbergh.
“We hope a lot of people will take advantage of The T’s free bus rides in exchange for helping the Tarrant Area Food Bank meet the needs of those in our community who depend on it,” said Dick Ruddell, president of The T.
