FORT WORTH (October 19, 2009) – You may do a double-take when you see the Kimbell Art Museum’s Carravaggio painting, The Cardsharps, on the side of a bus. Or, the Modern Art Museum’s Conjoined, and the outsized Wrapped Oranges from the Amon Carter Museum.
Three buses depicting Fort Worth’s art museums and iconic works from their collections recently hit the streets. It’s a component of a partnership between The T and the museums to encourage the public to “Ride the T” to the Cultural District.
“The Cultural District is one of our most popular destinations; nearly a half million people visit each year,” says Dick Ruddell, president of The T. “We wanted to remind the public that riding The T is an easy and affordable option for visiting the museums.”
The museums are offering bus riders special discounts with any of The T’s local, day, weekly, monthly or regional passes —$2 off admission to the Modern and 10% off in the museum stores in the Kimbell and Carter the entire month of November. And, the public can continue to save as each museum offers free admission. The Carter is always free, the Kimbell’s permanent collection is free and the Modern is free the first Sunday of the month.
Kimbell Art Museum director, Eric M. Lee, commented, “The world-class museums in our community are here for all to enjoy, and riding The T is an easy and environmentally friendly way to get to them. I eagerly await catching a glimpse of the stunning newly designed buses on the streets.”
Any daily Route 2-Camp Bowie bus (and the Route 7 bus on Saturday) leaves from the Intermodal Transportation Center to serve the Cultural District.
