The T board announces two new directors
FORT WORTH (October 18, 2007) – The T board of directors announced two new board member appointments at its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Gary W. Cumbie, special assistant to the Chancellor, Tarrant County College District, was appointed to The T board by City Council Member Danny Scarth, District 4.  He will replace Paul N. Geisel, past chairman and a member of the board since September 2000.  Rosa Navejar, president/CEO, Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, was appointed by City Council Member Sal Espino, District 2.  She takes the seat held by Ed Canas, immediate past vice chairman, who was named to The T board in November 1999.

Other T directors are Reby Cary, Jeane Grisham, Gary Havener, Robert L. Jameson, Robert Parmelee, Curtis Toombs and Mary Volcansek.

Prior to his current position at TCCD, he was vice president for advancement at Texas Wesleyan University.  During a 32-year career with Lone Star Gas and its successor, TXU Electric and Gas, Cumbie was vice president of Fort Worth from 1980 to 2003. Cumbie has previous leadership experience in public transportation as a member of the city’s public transportation advisory council in the 1980s.  Among other civic service, he is a past chairman of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Fort Worth, Inc., Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Harris Methodist Hospital-Fort Worth, Board of Trustees, Texas Wesleyan University and a past president of Rotary Club of Fort Worth.  Cumbie earned a B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and received a master’s degree from Baylor University.

Prior to becoming head of the Hispanic Chamber in 2001, Navejar was employed for 25 years with Bank of America in ascending management positions.  Her numerous community service positions include chair of the M/WBE Committee, Trinity Uptown and co-chair of the North Texas LEAD Advisory Council.  She is on the board of directors of the Fort Worth Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Leadership Fort Worth, North Texas Commission, Communities in School State Advisory Board, Communities in School, Fort Worth, Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce and United Way of Tarrant County.  Advisory boards include Atmos Energy, Congressman Joe Barton’s Hispanic Advisory Committee, Congresswoman Kay Granger’s Hispanic Advisory Committee and TCU’s Center for International Studies Professional Advisory Board.

“We are pleased to welcome these outstanding business and civic leaders to The T board, even as we will miss the counsel of those two long-term directors,” said Dick Ruddell, president and executive director of The T.

“The T has benefited greatly from the contributions made by Dr. Paul Geisel and Ed Canas for more than seven years.  They were instrumental as our agency made the transition to an intermodal system and developed a long-range strategic plan that includes more rail and other expansions to address the public transportation needs of our rapidly growing city, county and region,” Ruddell said.
