For Immediate Release

The T to present initial environment results for rail project at public meetings
* Noise and vibration impacts, proposed rail station concepts among topics

FORT WORTH, (March 3, 2008) – The T will host three public meetings to present results of the initial environmental analyses for its proposed commuter rail project on March 18 and 19 in Fort Worth and March 19 in Grapevine.  Rail station concepts proposed for inclusion in the environmental document also will be on display.

The Southwest-to-Northeast Rail Corridor environmental team has worked the past several months to determine the environmental conditions along the proposed 40-mile corridor, identify the potential impacts of the proposed commuter rail project, and propose measures to avoid, minimize or mitigate any potential impacts.

The proposed commuter rail corridor extends from southwest Fort Worth, through downtown Fort Worth, northeast to Grapevine, and into the north entrance of DFW Airport.

The environmental analysis has included taking field measurements and observing local conditions during site visits to the project area.  Environmental scientists have documented the types of vegetation, land uses and topography, the location of water resources, the color and texture of soils, the location and boundaries of wetland areas, and other aspects of the natural environment.  Transportation planners have field-verified the location of schools, hospitals, churches, libraries and other community resources, and have taken photographs of the corridor’s visual and aesthetic features.  And, noise and vibration specialists have taken measurements to provide a representative sample of existing levels along the entire corridor, and potential impacts of implementing commuter rail service in the corridor.

Public input is a key part of the ongoing effort to develop the Southwest-to-Northeast Rail Corridor, and anyone is welcome to attend or provide comments.

The results of the initial environmental analysis will be presented at the following public meetings.
