For Immediate Release

The T Calls for Public Input on Environmental Study of New Rail Corridor
FORT WORTH (May 30, 2007) -- The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) will launch a new round of public involvement activities on its proposed Southwest-to-Northeast Rail Corridor starting with public meetings on June 19, 20 and 21.

The meetings will explain the scope, schedule and activities of an environmental study to determine and address any environmental impacts of a proposed new commuter train.  This passenger train would follow existing rail lines from Fort Worth’s Granbury Road/South Hulen area, through downtown Fort Worth, northeast to downtown Grapevine and then into the north entrance of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.  The recommended route would connect to the Trinity Railway Express in downtown Fort Worth.

Attendees at the June public meetings will have an opportunity to enroll in upcoming roundtables about rail stations along the corridor. They also will be able to review the Public and Agency Coordination Plan to see how The T will be involving local residents, businesses, institutions and other stakeholders in the project. Everyone interested in the new rail project is invited to attend.

The public meetings and other public involvement discussions are part of an environmental review process that will document existing natural, social, cultural, historical and archaeological conditions along the proposed route.  The review also will assess the impacts of the proposed project on those environments, and the final documentation will propose actions to avoid, minimize or mitigate potential impacts.

Public input is a key part of the ongoing effort to develop public transportation for the Southwest-to-Northeast Rail Corridor. The T completed an analysis of all possible transit improvement options in the Southwest-to-Northeast Corridor in 2006, and selected passenger rail from among all possible solutions and technologies.

Cities in the corridor area include Colleyville, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Haltom City, Hurst, North Richland Hills, and Watauga. Meeting schedules and locations are:

Tuesday, June 19, 6:00 p.m.
TxDOT Regional Training Center, 2501 SW Loop 820, Fort Worth 76133.  MAPSCO 90N
Wednesday, June 20, 12:00 p.m. (Noon)
